Choosing the Right Projector
Life is all about compromises and when it comes to projectors, these involve Price, Weight, Resolution and Brightness - but not necessarily in that order.
Price: Decide up front whether price is the overriding factor. If it is, then look for bargains in clearance or ex-demo stock.

Weight: If you’re a “road warrior”, then portability may be the most important factor and you’ll want to be looking for a projector in the sub-5kg category. The trade-off here could be in brightness or resolution.
Resolution: A projector’s true resolution is the number of pixels in its panel or reflective chip. Sometimes you will see “compressed” resolutions quoted and this means that the projector will handle higher resolutions but only by compressing the images and this can lead to a loss of some lines of information. Under normal presentation circumstances, SVGA (800x600) will be totally acceptable but for fine line design drawings or detailed spreadsheets, XGA (1024x768) will be required. Most projectors now use XGA resolution as a standard.
Brightness (Lumens): It goes without saying that this is a key consideration if you want your images to be shown at the very best. Often, the type of screen used can greatly enhance the apparent brightness of a presentation. Most projectors now provide 1000 lumens and this should be used as a guide. However, as lamp and optical technology improve, you will find many new models in this category performing at 1200 lumens and above. As a general rule, the larger the screen - the more lumen power you will need.
Lamp Life: You should check on the quoted average lamp life before making your purchase. Remember that the lamp life will affect the ongoing costs of your projector.
