| HOME CINEMA | “Cinema so good you can hear a Pin Drop”
The explosion in Multiplex Cinemas around the country and even globally has revitalised a movie industry that in little over a decade ago was in serious decline.
Whether it’s new found popularity is down to the Film industry producing blockbuster special effects and cartoons so engaging your lost in imagination, or it’s down to the popularity of the modern celebrity actor or great writers and directors is for others better qualified to deliberate and expand upon!
What is clear however, is the appetite and enthusiasm to bring that big screen entertainment home, in the form of Large flat panel TV’s, surround sound systems and for the more enthusiastic…full blown Home Cinema.
At MSi our home install division gives you the answers by offering bespoke solutions tailored to suit budgets environments and tastes. We can offer everything from advanced Cinema style environments Acoustic sound proofing, environmental control of lighting, heating and security access and of course High Definition projection with digital sound systems motion cinema seating and state of the art control. But all good Home Cinema whether in the living room or dedicated bespoke mini theatre has to provide one essential requirement...Enjoyment!
Choosing the right Home Cinema Projector.
At MSi we offer a fantastic line up of Cinema Projectors from the leading manufacturers in Home cinema, suitable for the coffee table, games room or permanent installation.
We obviously consider the price when we recommend you a Projector, after all it’s no use parading a model with all the bells and whistles if you only want a table top model for occasional use, but at the same time we have a commitment to see you have the best available performing projector for that price, maximising the entertainment factor and delivering on enjoyment.
Much of a Projectors specification will be considered in terms of what sort of media you want to show, is it standard DVD or TV broadcast, perhaps home movies from the camcorder or a side show of your family photo album and of course gaming!
But when you want to consider True HD, that is, 1080P resolution, then we will look at a different quality of projector, one that has the resolution to provide incredible detail from Blu-ray or HD TV broadcast or from your PS3 or Xbox elite gaming console with its HDMI connectivity.
Our leading brands such as Mitsubishi Screenplay, Themescene, Cineversum and Panasonic amongst others achieve model for model incredible image quality and provide that wow! Factor we want when enjoying movies.Certainly there are a few projectors used for portable cinema such as the Optoma or Epson that provide built in DVD and sound for an all in one solution, these models are very popular for occasional use, or where space is a premium or ideal for the children games room or to take round friends and family.
Choosing the right Home Cinema Screen!
It is understandable that now you’ve planned to purchase your projector, perhaps already lining up your friends and family for a get together to enjoy the latest DVD blockbuster Cinema style!, that any consideration for a screen is barely accommodated. But ignoring the benefits of a screen you are in fact automatically down grading the performance of your new projector.
At MSi we always recommend a Cinema screen. Quite simply “Magnolia or Dove white” walls just don’t cut it when it comes to projection. It may be quick and convenient to project against a wall but having spent your hard earned money on a high technology projector, you are about to throw its performance out of the window by losing up to a third in sharpness contrast, brightness and !
The truth is a good screen does not have to cost a lot, a great screen will but you get what you pay for. Screen technology is a science, how screens are designed and the fabric used, will determine a projectors true life like performance in colour and brightness, it can bring out the very best in the media and for those watching, you will find the simple detail like a black border focuses the eye to the image creating a defined viewing area and therefore more intense viewing experience.MSi offer you a massive range of screens, from portable pull up, fixed Electric or Manual screens, to full on Multi aspect screens with front or rear projection and for cinefiles perforated surfaces to allow the central speaker to be mounted directly behind giving the ultimate lifelike sound effect.
Screen aspect (its shape) is all important depending on the Media you are showing. By default the majority of Cinema projectors are manufactured with a Widescreen 16:9 resolution and we can supply all screens in this and other formats including Video 4:3 and the ultimate resolution for reproduction of the big screen, Anamorphic 2:35.1!
Projection screens can pull up form a portable case, be Manual or Electric drop down, installed to wall or flush in ceilings, provide Electric control of position and even multi aspect with masking for all media projection, they can be fixed permanent or rear projection, they can have perforated surfaces for rear sound acoustics and offer multi contrast colour fabric and gain for exceptional image quality.
So whether it’s portable or fixed, manual or electric we can help you find the right solution no matter what the location, projector specification and of course budget.
Choosing the right Cinema sound system?
For all the performance of Projection technology the quality of screen, or having the best processing and media to watch,Home Cinema is entirely one dimensional without Sound…Surround Sound that is!
Surround sound is simply the ability to break down an audio track into the native elements created when it was originally recorded. Surround sound is made up of three specific speaker zones, Front Side and rear.
5.1 systems are the most popular for Home entertainment. 5.1 surround sound is made up of 5 channels, centre (speech) Front left and right surround and rear Left and Right surround the additional component is a separate Sub woofer for the separated low base frequency…the BOOM! Effect.
The addition of a speaker becomes a 6.1 system with the position of the speaker as a centre rear (often the rear surrounds are placed to the side) with a 7.1 providing the ultimate coverage of six surround effect speakers covering the Front, Side and Rear and a centre channel with Sub.
The cinemas we go out to will have Multiple side and rear channels to provide immersive coverage due to the size of the rooms they use, a 7.1 system where the media allows provides that same immersive effect for the ultimate seat of your pants sound effects entertainment.
Much of the new media on HD and Blu-ray is now being produced with 7.1 decoding, processed by advanced sound labs such as Lucas THX, Sony and of course Dolby Digital and it is in choosing the right speakers and amplification that we can achieve the same or even greater, intense, sound reproduction so good you can hear a pin drop or an explosion that shakes you in your seat, this is the ultimate movie experience.
MSi can assist you in choosing the right audio solution for your Cinema, whether it’s’ a combination of your TV system or a dedicated system, we offer choice in size, style, design and of course the most important performance.
Why describe Projection as Home cinema, not TV
When we talk of Cinema Projection, we are purposely defining the role of a projector as a comparison to the movie theatre, where given the right environment and equipment you can create that big screen feel and emotion but in your own home.
TV, at least in domestic terms cannot achieve the impact of a projector, mainly due to the restricted size or the way in which we watch it. The TV is often cited in a convenient location for seating, but not acoustics, TV is used in lighting conditions that a projector cannot possibly perform and so the ambience is often not created to the same level as a dedicated Cinema room. Fundamentally it is the image quality, and ability to have a giant screen in your own home that the definition Home Cinema is given, for us TV belongs in Home entertainment Projection is Home Cinema.
There are of course exceptions. The flat screen market is set for a major change in technology with SLD screens making their debut, providing perhaps the ultimate incarnation of high quality picture, super smooth sharp!
Flat screen TV is now being produced in supersizes, the latest models now 108 inches with the 65inch being affordable and of quality. We will often consider these supersize screens, where the lighting or environment issues do not benefit Projection or there are specific reasons as to why projection cannot be used.
With projection screen design and projectors, we can bring the truw cinemascope format to the home, that is in most cases 2:35:1 ratio Cinemascope.
Cinemascope is most noticeable in operation when you are sitting down in the big Cinema complex and after watching all the trailers, the main feature finally starts, the curtains widen and the movie begins, this is called Anamorphic cinema or the natural format of widescreen that the movie would have been shot in. |
